Eden Rock

Niche Travel Guides

This beachside retreat was the first hotel to open on St Barts and it has since hosted a sea of famous faces – from Greta Garbo to David Rockefeller. While this alone will pique your interest, it’s the individuality of the suites that will capture your imagination. While some are located on the rock (with striking oval windows), others are dotted along the beach or set within tropical beachside gardens. It’s safe to say that owners David and Jane Matthews have transformed the Eden Rock into a contemporary haven which truly makes the most of its unique location.

Eden Rock has deservedly won numerous awards over the years, the most recent being ranked the second-best hotel in the Caribbean in the Condé Nast’s Readers awards 2020. Many of its discerning clientele return each year, and the staff always go to the effort of remembering your name. Eden Rock is undoubtedly one of the most exclusive hotels in the Caribbean.

We’ve already mentioned that Eden Rock has enviable heritage on the island, and the hotel pays homage to its first intrepid owner at the bar. Pull up a barstool or sink into a luxurious sofa at Rémy Bar and let the mixologists shake you up a signature cocktail. What a way to kickstart your evening on St Barts.

Eden Rock is all about location. The hotel overlooks the sea on the stunning St Jean beach. Relax on the sunbeds or grab a stool at their Beach Bar and enjoy some crispy calamari with an Aperol and Rosemary spritz.

The main restaurant is the Sand Bar, perfect for both a long lunch or candle lit dinner. The cuisine is masterminded by the famous chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten. No visit to St Barts would be the same without having one of their indulgent wood fired black truffle and fontina pizzas.

There are also the restaurants and boutiques of St Jean, which are all within an ‘I’ll just pop back for that bikini’ walking distance.

Alongside their luxury Eden Spa, Eden Rock also have a private wellness coach for those seeking yoga or meditation. Fitness enthusiasts will be keen to know they offer private training programs for guests, as well as a gym with all the latest top of the range equipment.

With gorgeous red-striped sunbeds, a private pool overlooking the turquoise bay and enough room on the terrace for a morning warrior pose, the Diamond Suites are pure escapist perfection. Being able to walk (stagger) home from one of the famous Sunday parties at Nikki Beach is also a big plus.

Zion St Barths

On a recent trip to St Barth in 2022 we were delighted to discover Zion restaurant, which is in Saint-Jean. The restaurant has a casual, yet exclusive atmosphere, and is one of the most exciting restaurants to open in St Barth in the last few years.
