Chidas Bar and Cantina

Niche Travel Guides

This vibrant Mexican taqueria located in Ibiza town has firmly established itself as one of our favourite restaurants in Ibiza, after we discovered it in 2022. We have a long-held love for Mexican food (who doesn’t?), having travelled large parts of Mexico and eaten at many of the best Mexican restaurants in London, Chidas blew us away with the quality of their street food and bespoke cocktails.

After working some of  London’s iconic venues such as Hakkasan, Sketch, and OXO, the team of Andreas Tsanos, Salvatore D´Amico and Julien Beceren were inspired by a visit to a tiny Mexican cantina in Barcelona, and opened ‘Little Chidas’ to begin with, and after their early success they took over next door to create a larger site with outdoor seating and a dedicated bar.

Rarely does a venue deliver cocktails that are as good as the food, but Chidas certainly achieves that, and the bar is a destination in itself. You can work your way through their micheladas (a traditional Mexican drink made with beer, lime, and spices), or go for one of their expertly crafted mezcal or tequila inspired cocktails, such as the Poppins Paloma or the Who’s Tommy.

They also serve refreshing non-alcoholic drinks including a Tepache (made from fermented pineapple rinds), a house lemonade with lemon sherbet and an Agua Fresca (using any left-over seasonal fruit with agave syrup and water)

The atmosphere is relaxed, and you can see that the friendly staff are very passionate about giving you an authentic Mexican experience.

Everything is fresh and seasonal at Chidas, they use local suppliers such as Terra Masia and try and source ingredients from Ibiza as much as possible.

Start your meal with the guacamole with the best tortilla chips we’ve ever tasted (you get two types), and then move onto one of the freshly made ceviche’s. We tried the zingy Aquachile ceviche made with wild sea bass, shrimps and aji amerillo (a Peruvian yellow chilli pepper).

Tacos may be one of our favourite things to eat, and Chidas certainly delivered amongst the best we’ve ever tasted. We recommend the Gobernador with spicy grilled prawns, semi-cured gouda, and kimchi mayonnaise and the Cochinita (pork slow cooked in a banana leaf) with deep fried pork rind and pickled red onion.

Other highlights of the menu include a smoked eggplant tostada with black beans and chilli and a chicken quesadilla with gouda, tomatoes, and sour cream.

With an incredible selection of tequila and mezcal’s, ask Andreas to recommend one to finish your meal in style. After all that food, take a walk around historic Dalt Vila to discover the magical Ibiza old town.

Chidas can also host special events, they can do anything from a Mexican inspired party on a boat, to a private dinner in your villa. Contact them directly for more information.
