Delos may be one of the smaller Greek islands, but it’s one of the richest when it comes to mythology. Found near the centre of the Cyclades archipelago, it was a holy sanctuary, the suggested birthplace of Apollo and Artemis and then, an ancient city. While there’s no accommodation on the island now, there’s evidence of its previous inhabitants everywhere – recovered statues, mosaics and even the footings of an ancient theatre.
In the peak season, the ferry runs from Mykonos Old Port daily.
