Zion St Barths

Niche Travel Guides

On a recent trip to St Barth in 2022 we were delighted to discover Zion restaurant, which is in Saint-Jean. The restaurant has a casual, yet exclusive atmosphere, and is one of the most exciting restaurants to open in St Barth in the last few years.

The chef/owner Jean-Baptiste Piard is undoubtedly one of the most talented in St Barth. He has developed a unique style of cooking based on a wealth of experience gained at various Michelin starred restaurants around the world, and he also won the award of the best chef in the French Polynesia in 2013. Before embarking on the project to open Zion, he was executive chef at one of the luxury five-star hotels on the island.

The chef has created a menu that focusses on sourcing only the best seasonal ingredients, and is regularly updated with exciting new dishes. Whilst trying to decide what to order, let the mixologists shake you up one of their exquisite cocktails.

Starters include a veal tarter with capers, thyme and olive oil sorbet with sun dried tomatoes, and an indulgent duck foie gras with mushrooms, whisky and black tea. For main course, the mahi mahi with puffed rice, coconut, mint and ginger is ever popular, and we loved the veal sweetbread with corn, maple syrup and grilled bacon.

If you are a chocolate lover, you won’t want to miss a recent addition to the menu – 75% tulakalum Valrhona chocolate, with caramel, café arabica and almonds.

Zion also have a carefully curated wine list and the sommelier will help you choose the perfect bottle to accompany your meal.

We were lucky enough to experience the chefs table on our last visit. A surprise seven course meal at the counter overlooking an open kitchen for a maximum of six fortunate guests, with an optional wine pairing. The chefs table one is of the best culinary experiences in St Barth, so we recommend booking at least one month in advance.

Zion is also one of the few restaurants in St Barth to open all year round, and they can also cater for private events in your villa or yacht.
