Olivia’s Kitchen Ibiza

Niche Travel Guides

The thriving culinary scene in the picturesque Santa Gertrudis in Ibiza just moved up another notch with the opening of Olivia’s Ibiza Kitchen in 2021. If you are looking for a new restaurant to try in 2022 – Olivia’s Kitchen comes highly recommended.

The owners Sonja and Jan Van der Hagen love for the island led them to embarking on a project to settle in Ibiza and team up with their family to set up Olivia’s, which is named after their daughter. It is a real family affair, with their son Alejandro working in the kitchen alongside Dani Rei who has worked at a number of Michelin starred restaurants around Spain.

The attention to detail and the passion the owners have for Ibiza can be seen throughout the restaurant, with various local crafts on show from collaborating artists.

The kitchen has a zero food miles ethos, meaning they source their ingredients in Ibiza from local farmers and fishermen. The chef’s keep the dishes they create simple and healthy – but they are colourful, vibrant and full of flavour.

If you are looking for a nutritious meal in Ibiza you can take a seat on their shaded terrace and enjoy a variety of flavoursome salads. We enjoyed the grilled kale with quinoa and chicken, cherry tomato confit with satay vinaigrette and the marinated grilled octopus with fresh herbs, onion and a refreshing cucumber salad.

The appealing menu also has a selection of rice, fish and meat dishes. The Spanish rice with red mullet and razor clams cooked on the barbeque was absolutely delicious, and the Lebanese style Ibizencan lamb with harissa, tzatziki and home-made pita breads was equally as good. There is also excellent vegetarian options including the stand out mellow rice with ceps, truffle and parmesan.

If you have room for dessert we recommend the lemon pie with spiced meringue, perfect with a few sips of local Hierbas, a liqueur made in Ibiza.

The charming village of Santa Gertrudis is one of our favourite places in Ibiza, we suggest arriving a few hours before your meal to explore the shops, grab a cold beer at one of the bars overlooking the church or sample a creative cocktail at Overall.
